Stephen Z. Cook divides his time as a classical musician with multi-faceted responsibilities that underscore his abilities and interests. He is employed by two churches in Williamsburg, Virginia: he is an Associate Organist and Director of the College of William & Mary Choir at Bruton Parish, an 18th-century Episcopal church located in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg; and he is Organist at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, whose impressive 21st-century edifice is surrounded on three sides by the historic College of William & Mary. He teaches undergraduate courses in ear training, sight-singing, and piano at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, a burgeoning, small-town university with begrudging, big-city facilities. In his off-duty time he keeps busy with his work as a consultant for Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists in Hartford, Connecticut, and for various church committees, organists, and organ builders across the country. He holds a Bachelors degree in piano performance with honors from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, a Masters degree in church music and organ performance from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance and pedagogy from the University of Iowa. Dr. Cook's academic, fraternal, and professional memberships include: Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha, the American Guild of Organists, and the Association of Anglican Musicians.

"Distinguished organist Stephen Z. Cook has recorded a disc for the Towerhill label on the recently installed [2006] John-Paul Buzard organ at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. The good folks there can take pride at having such a splendid instrument . . . Cook even contributes his own quirky and fun-filled "March on BRADBURY." In all, a most enjoyable hour with the King of Instruments."
The Daily Press, Newport News, Virginia

" . . . [Cook's] own variations are short but not without interest, with some modern harmonies and a clearly-heard theme." American Record Guide
